Double Chin - Causes and Treatment

How double chins develop and how to eliminate them.

A double chin represents subcutaneous fat around the neck that sags down and eventually creates a wrinkle, making the owner appear to have a second chin. It mostly develops on people who are over-weight or elderly. Someone of average weight can also have a double chin, depending on their bone structure and the amount of loose skin. A double chin is more visible to others when the the head is tilted down or the bottom jaw is lowered. Facial and double chin exercises have been shown to be helpful in reducing the appearance of a double chin. As an example, shown below is an introductory face workout by the late Jack La Lanne.

The bad news is that several factors can directly contribute to a double chin, including obesity, bad posture, lack of exercise, age, and genetics. The good news is that while genetics and age might be against you, that doesn’t mean you can’t fight back!

Jack La Lanne has a chapter on face and neck exercises in his recent book.("Revitalize Your Life", Hastings House Publishers, 2003). In this chapter, Jack made some very important remarks about our facial appearance.

  • "The face is the seat of our expressions and the mirror of our emotions. Bad nutrition, lack of sleep, and worry show in our faces. How we look and feel is a dead giveaway, but only if we let it be."
  • "The first step to a better-looking face is to try a Smile on those facial muscles. Force them a little. Decide that they are going to grow into expressions of character you want the world to see."
  • "Perhaps you want to come out from behind that turkey neck, sagging jowls, and double chin that conceal the clean-cut jawline of your younger years. Some of that flab will have to come off by eating properly and cutting down on calories. This includes eating more fresh fruits, vegetables, fish, chicken, and turkey."

A double chin is not only one problem faced by overweight people, but also can occur with normal-weight people. As we age, the double chin starts to appear due to fat deposits or other reasons. The ultimate causes of a double chin are:

excess fat

Once you understand the actual cause of double chin, it becomes a practical matter of how to implement the right method to get rid of it. Additionally, there are many surgical methods available, but facial exercise, including double chin exercises, and proper diet can be the best way to get rid of double chin without invoking surgery. If you really intend to get rid of a double chin, there are many different routes you can take to get there, and often, many find the best route is in using some kind of combination of all the options involved.

There are many ways to treat a double chin. Steps you can take to get rid of a double chin include:

Double Chin Facial Exercises
Diet & Weight Loss
Exercise & Weight Loss
Velform chin wrap
Neckline Slimmer
Correcting Bad Posture
Chewing Gum
Tumescent Liposuction
Judicious Use Of Make Up!
